Correct has an Irish passport - from what I understand he was a halfback at Stream and because he was a year ahead of himself at school he went to Ulster for like a gap year and made Ulster U19’s. Turned down an Academy contract there. Came back made a Wgtn XV played against NZU20’s and Ricki Flutey converted him to 10 for Wgtn U19’s.
Scored a try for the Canes against the Saders in a preseason match back in Feb 2019 but broke his leg in the process. Could have found himself playing professional rugby sooner but he has won Jubilee Cups in 2020 and 2024 and has played over 75 Prem club rugby games in Wgtn at 9, 10, 12, and 15.
He has a body of work behind him -
Could he (in a super pinch) cover HB at NPC / Super level? A 9/10/15 cover player could be gold for a 6/2 bench.

Oh right, I remember him getting injured in a pre-season game in Levin playing halfback for the Canes.

I was reading somewhere that Higgins is also Welsh eligible. Who'd want to play for them though.
@Canes4life Yeah I read that about Higgins as well.Taylor Cahill at the crusaders is Welsh qualified also

Higgins can play both but he’s usually a 12. I’m hoping the Canes play Love at 10 next year, Barrett at 15 and Higgins/Proctor in the midfield.

Yep and Canes probably thought his money could just be better spent on another winger, or perhaps a big lock?

@Landers92 we actually only need two more players if the squad is a 38 man squad.
Likely one more loose forward and one more outside back.
Mosese Bason, who has been earmarked for higher honours within the Canes sytem apparently played club rugby in Waikato last weekend, so maybe Waikato and the Chiefs have secured him. But I could be totally wrong.
