It’s not going to happen but this seems like a great time for Robertson to try a 6. Vaa’i 7. Savea 8. Finau combination. Sure, the breakdown might be a bit messy. And yeah, Finau hasn’t played at number 8 since 2023 (ahem, against the Western Force).

But the lineout options would be great. And there should be no issue of getting over the gain line. And surely Finau is more of an 8 than he is a lock, and Robertson doesn’t seem to have any qualms of playing him there.

What was it that Scott Robertson said back in July? Oh right:

This is Test footy and those are some big men. Rugby really is pretty simple when you think about it.

From memory Fifita complained about having to play lock at Super level. Came across as a very talented athlete rather than a natural rugby player.

Was definitely a freak athlete. Should have popped him on the wing.

@KiwiMurph That part I'm less impressed with.

I'm hoping these are interim measures and not just ushering Rassie into another RWC! 🙂

@Canes4life He has had a decent career after leaving New Zealand with Wasps, the Scarlets and Tonga but nothing exceptional. I think NZ Rugby got the best out of him.

Apparently he's just joined newly promoted Top 14 side Montauban:

@MiketheSnow With all respect to Welsh club Rugby, you'd expect an 11-test All Black still at a prime age to rip it at that level.

He played with and against better than 11-test All Blacks week in, week out and always looked impressive

@MiketheSnow It's no different than the NPC. If players who have played for the All Blacks about a dozen times like Leicester F or Ethan Blackadder aren't ripping it up at that level, then there's problem.

@Canes4life good try. But if we had backs that chased and tackled like those in blue and white stripes, they would be called “useless”

Oh come on, that was absolutely brilliant skill by the cover "defence" to dive perfectly behind him. Beautiful stuff.

Proof is in the pudding and his loose forwards selections are on average not exactly monsters.

                              Forward bench: Norris/Sami T/Tosi/Paddy T/Finau

                                Guessing backline is Ratima/BB/JB/Proctor/Ioane/Reece/Jordan,

Although I’d personally like to see Narawa get the gig.

In which case, injuries permitting, back line bench:

                                Christie/ALB/DMac

What time is the team name? Thx in advance !!

I think they've always been named the All Blacks

All time then. Just answer the question.

                                        Guessing backline is Ratima/BB/JB/Proctor/Ioane/Reece/Jordan,

Although I’d personally like to see Narawa get the gig.

In which case, injuries permitting, back line bench:

                                        Christie/ALB/DMac

That back line bench is etched in my memory so please tweak it ever so slightly
