Tony Brown has ‘ruled himself out’ - I’d wait on that. We all know he wants to work with Jamie Joseph, so without knowing the terms of his contract it is impossible to say what might unfold.
I dont rule him out either, very delicate work to make it happen tho.
I'm sure he's keen, the saffas will know that, so that in itself will be a factor.I wonder what the pay out on a deal like that would look like?

On the Cotter thing, we has a whisper on here, but also suspected there something as word around a couple of weeks back (before the AB stuff broke) that Blues were looking for a head coach.
I dont read the Blues thread, but the Cotter to Reds move has obviously been on for a while, surprising in the present circumstances that it wasn't more than just a whisper on TSF.
Blues fans are very discreet

-
This thread quickly became laughable - people demonstrating they've got vivid imaginations because they're rightfully not being told the details about a process they aren't involved in.

Jamie also gets on well with Tamati Ellison, so would not be stunned to see him retained too - though there were question marks around the defence.
Question marks?

@antipodean exclamation marks, this many!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The spaces between them are far too small

There is a lot of overreaction going on here.
Peter Kean, Owner of the Highlanders, had been talking to David Kirk a lot in the weeks leading up to Razor’s sacking.
My source had no clue what the conversations were about, but given the events that have followed, you can probably piece things together.
By making Joseph NZ XV coach, they kind of showed their hand - Cotter was not in their thinking.
I had heard Schmidt as Director of Rugby, and believe that is something that will eventually happen, but he is going to owner his agreement with Australia. Given this is not a coaching role, and is a job he could hold for say 10 years, I guess timing is not everything.
Tony Brown has ‘ruled himself out’ - I’d wait on that. We all know he wants to work with Jamie Joseph, so without knowing the terms of his contract it is impossible to say what might unfold.
As for other assistants, I think it is likely Jamie would want a thinner coaching team anyway, but half the assistants probably stay.
Assuming Joseph does get the job, and the selection process, is simply a process, I would then imagine he will meet individually with each of the coaches.
I have heard he gets on fine with Jason Ryan, and given he reviewed fine, I think it is likely he keeps his job. The alternate is seemingly Jamie Mackintosh, who would be easy to get.
We know he has coached with Scott Hansen before, but down to pure optics I’d be surprised if he is kept on. I think Brown is likely to be the target for the attack, but if the truly can’t get him, then Kenny Lynn, who Joseph rates highly, is the probable target. I would imagine getting him out of his Argentina contract would be doable. Given Leon McDonald is his cousin, don’t discount that either.
Jamie also gets on well with Tamati Ellison, so would not be stunned to see him retained too - though there were question marks around the defence. I think both Cory Jane and David Kidwell would be in the frame, both heavily attainable.
I am yet to see any credible evidence that NZR won’t get their new preferred coaching team over the line.
Yes - Leon and Jamie are cousins & were also sighted having coffee together prior to NZR's desion to go with Razor over Jamie for HC in March 2023, so I assume Leon was always going to feature in Jamie's setup regardless.
-
Hilarious to see dockers fans crying because we might not get the absolute premier coaching team immediately, while completely missing the wood for the trees - even last resort available is a massive step up on shit show Razor.
You guys should be happy, you've actually got a chance of being AB coach and not being worse than the guy before you!

I could envisage Rennie working under Joseph, not sure I could envisage the reverse.
Didn't Joseph briefly work beside Rennie with Wellington in early 2000's?
I think he was WRFU U20s / development teams coach while Rennie was Lions head coach & might've been a Lions resource coach or assistant coach under Rennie also?

Listening to that, both commentators prefer Dave Rennie.
Their reasoning, superior ability to bring team together in short space of time.
Slightly better body of work. Certain Wallabies were very unhappy with him being replaced by Eddie Jones.Joesph is a good hard man but has gone through a lot of assistants (Tom Donnelly, Kendrick Lynn, Dave Dillon and others) and he wasnt very popular with the Japanese players towards the end according to Victor Matfield. They mention perhaps this is what the ABs need, but overall view it as a potential red flag. Tony Brown not being there with JJ is a big hit. All of JJ's big success has come with him.

Rennie as HC and JJ as assistant would be good. JJ can hopefully learn a bit from Rennie and take that with him when he eventually takes over with TB

Just shitty timing. But what the fuck was he doing leaving for the Reds anyway? After winning SR with the Blues his job must have been secure?
-
Seems like he felt “job done” at the Blues and was likely to leave after this season anyway .

Thinkin the same, side ways move, at best.
If they wanted him NZR would have had him; just had to figure what the price of breaking his "word" would have been.
Saw Reds play in atrial on the weekend.
About 70 or 80 players got a run in the game!
Fun game, perfect conditions.
Must be a few Aussie coaches pissed off. -

Robertson applying for the Reds job was an interesting tidbit.

Adds credence to the idea that Razor performed badly during the review and that's what cost him his job, the move was clearly not premeditated because a bunch of coaches have been caught out
