    Brown could have a clause in his contract allowing him to leave without issue and SA could still dig their heels in just to make sure there’s nothing they can do about it even if they can’t. Both things can be true.

    @Chris-B Excellent post.

    The big problem for me was that we never saw an 80 minutes or even a 40 minutes under Robertson that looked like a convincing All Blacks Test performance.

    Who said what to whom and who hurt whose feelings aren't of interest to me. But the consistently poor performances by the All Blacks in 2024 and 2025 and the trajectory were deeply alarming.

    @Chris yeah, you'd have to think if there is a clause, it would be if he's offered the opportunity to be in the AB coaching setup, rather than specifically about JJ.

    Would you?

    He has turned down opportunities with others in the ABs.

    Making it one head coach really limits the potnetial for him to ask for a release. Especially as the previous head coach was contracted until the end of 2027.

    @Chris yeah real interesting to see. Outside of a private group chat with a few close mates, this is the only place I'm sharing info. So It looks to me like we've got a few lurkers just copying info and then posting it elsewhere. Which is...frustrating.

    @sparky not to mention how often we got over run in the 2nd spell, something that almost never happened from about 2007 to 2017, akin to Tiger at his peak, if he was in the last pair on a Sunday, odds are he was winning.

    It became very rare to feel "safe", even when two tries up in the last 5 minutes.

    I don't think you get two goes. He's as cooked as Mitch, IMO. If he's going to win two RWCs, they'll be two we don't win - unless he gets a go with our women.

    I've been thinking some more about this. There's really no precedent I can remember for a second crack. The closest is Smith and he came back as an assistant. I don't see that being a fit for Robertson, his strengths seem to fit with being the CEO style head coach more than being the technical guru behind the scenes.

    I think there are two key differences with Mitch/Deans though.

    Firstly, he hasn't lost a world cup. Yes every game matters when you're ABs coach, but world cups matter a little bit more. That what if is tantalising and maybe enough if Robertson goes somewhere new and finds his old success again.

    Secondly, at least from the outside, it doesn't feel like there are bridges being burned. Things just felt utterly toxic after 2003 (and even worse in 2007 after Deans missed out).

    It still feels like a massive longshot that he ever gets the gig again though.

    So a little side discussion, who thinks this should be the end of Razor's AB career and who's willing to give him another shot?

    If he goes away, coaches some other teams successfully, maybe some lower tier teams, obviously outside of the Cantab bubble, then I'd be happy to see him given another shot in the future, he's still a young guy. For reference I've never wanted to see Mitchell anywhere near NZ rugby.

    How come ? strange guy, ended a couple of careers which NZ has never forgiven him for.....Not sure if all the behind the scenes chaos under Razor happened under his watch though ?

    @Cyclops a good dose of learnings over the next decade and I reckon he could be right back in the mix.

    @Frank guess it depends how much of a challenge he wants too...I mean he's got a good gig in SA, in NZ, he would starting from scratch...

    SA do not want Brown to head to the WC with NZ with IP from his time with SA who would want that taken away to another team.

    SA are invincible. They don't need NZers. They're going to clone Rassie. And arguably they took our IP first...

    Regardless of what lies ahead in future for Razor - the added benefit of experience overseas is he will expand his coaching network/tree.

    I'm missing some of the whispers, is Tony Brown being chased for Joseph only or for combining with other coaches?

    @Cyclops Scott's 51 now.

    Someone else is going to do two years. Then there will be someone for four years.

    Is six years enough time to do penance and redeem himself? I'm pretty doubtful.

    After that, he's getting long in the tooth unless he's done something fabulous.

    I think you just run out of time and people have long memories.
