Interesting hearing Pat Lam saying NZ Rugby's coach recruitment process is flawed because they miss out on talent by asking each applicant to name their assistant coaches in advance... Tony Brown was missed even though Razor wanted him, but he was part of JJ's group...
Instead why don't they let applicants apply as individuals... and then the winner gets to choose his assistants after they get the job? Surely this opens up the coaching talent pool?

Scott Barrett is 32, I think he's had an injury. If the coaches played him at not 100% I wonder if he should be to blame. Not my first choice as captain but we actually don't have fantastic lock depth.

Holland, Patty T, Darry, Vaai, Lord? A decent young core with veterans as well. But SB is in the mix

I think (could have misremembered) that was Sam Whitelock's point as well.

Patty is 32, has injuries, great warrior but might not be a 80 minute player ..I think you need 4 good locks and that gives Holland Vaa'i Barrett maybe Patty T or the other 2 you mention fighting for that fourth or even bench spot. I think Beehre turns 24 in the next few months - might be another to keep an eye on. Not sure Barrett is top 2 locks in country but he must have a chance at top 4. Again, maybe his current form has a slight injury factor-not sure.

SA sites say Brown to stay with Boks.

@canefan Beehre is developing too. Zach Gallagher leaving was disappointing, but there'll probably be an in form young lock at the Crusaders soon.
Or why don’t we try and keep Warner Dearns in NZ until he’s eligible.

Because Brown only will work for the All Blacks under JJ out of loyalty.

Runs counter to other info on here, but my channels tell me T Brown is free to walk from the Boks now if he wants.
if he wants?! That is also interesting. I thought he really enjoyed working with Joseph.
If this is true, then the 'want' would be determined by whether or not Joseph gets the head coaching job presumably.

FWIW - Mark Keohane
My understanding is that Brown has committed to Erasmus and the Springboks, regardless of the situation in New Zealand rugby, and that he would only consider an All Blacks offer, should it come, post the 2027 World Cup.
My understanding is that there is no escape/out clause in Brown’s Springboks contract to accommodate a move back to New Zealand and the All Blacks pre the 2027 World Cup.

Even before Razor got moved Kirk had made comment on the selection process.
You can guarantee he'll do his utmost to get that right this time. He's a smart guy, I think he's got a good chance of doing it by the numbers this time

That is a really difficult one, because coaching is such a team game now - and we have all seen how much of a difference the assistants can make (looking at you Mr Foster).
The guy going for the head coach should, IMO, be able to say who he wants to work with and also that they want to work with him. There is no use hiring a guy in the HC role if he can only get dud assistants - or if there's loads of great assistants who he'd be willing to work with but they don't want to work with him.
So, I think, flexibility is the key thing. You really what you want is numerous guys going for the HC role who have some overlap in their proposed assistants, e.g. you want every applicant to be able to say "I have spoken to Tony and can confirm that he is happy to run the attack if I am appointed".

With Razor gone, Cron might be back as an advisor. ABs will need all hands on deck for the Bok challenge.
-
Not sayin there are many ferners that are going to make international head coaches, but, there some ferners who have been microscoping head coaches for decades.
They can tell the dif between those who are gettin the job done, and those who aren't.
It is quite a transparent work environment, at the highest levels..
Robertson was actually going ok, but only "ok," the powers that be decided the downside risk going forward would be less if they made a change.
There'll be a process; and if one of the candidates shows up with a presentation anything like the one Razor had, they'll have absolutely no chance of getting the gig.I'm actually a bit concerned for Razor rn, thinking you should go and give him a hug.

@booboo The next coach needs to come in and break this apart before it gets even more toxic than it already is.
It's got so bad they're keeping dibs now on who is or isn't being picked as starters from their clique.
Will they refuse to train or give negative feedback for the incoming coach if they don't get what they want in the future as well??
(razor deserved to go, but I'm concerned there's a rot forming from senior established starters where it may actually be better to get rid of all of them and move forward with the next gen).
Need to break down the cliques. Agreed.

Possibly a unpopular take but I'd go with Jordie as captain for the short term with Roigard and Sititi as vice captains.
Move on the other Barrett bros, Savea, Reece, ALB etc. Starting bringing blokes like Reihana, Tangitau, JRK, Flanders, Howden and bring back Fakatava in the squad.
Am I missing something?
Edit: sorry, missed the "other" Barrett brothers.
As you were.
