@cgrant yeah he pulled out before the game - pretty sure it was Armstrong.

Fair cop. I didn't see lineups and checked on Scrum.com, which said May. Then reading GetStuffed.com I saw Armstrong, and meant to change it.

    Thought he did well.

I think Armstrong always does ok, seems to give away a lot less penalties than May.
Him and Lomax seem to at least hold their own in scrums.

Just watched the game again and I was actually very happy with how JGB ran the show. Not sure why he's getting so much negativitiy on here, he was very solid without being spectacular and I think that's what the Canes need atm. He cleared well, was strong when running into contact, defended well and his passing wasn't as laboured as some people make out.

Agree. I had read the criticism before the match so was surprised how well he played. His passing was good in this game. It was a bit labored in his first two starts but not this one. The key though with how rugby is played now is clearing the ball. Its essential now even more so than in the past. And in this respect hes clearly better than Smith

I think JGB suffers from preconceived ideas. A couple of games this year I've been surprised at how well he's played when compared to comments.

He was OK against the Blues, not brilliant but sound and effective. Ran his backline well.

@Bones He's like Prinsep - an easy target for when things go wrong.

It's funny - Blackwell has started playing fairly ordinary and not a patch on his form at the start of the year - yet he now gets less attention.

He was never in great form. He varies for ordinary or maybe slightly more (Chiefs last game) to poor. There is a reason why he doesn't play 6 (at 1.90 that would be his obvious position) and these reasons reflect his lock performances.

It's two posts differ at the end though! Not sure where anyone said Blackwell was in great form though...

@pakman I think he got the top bodies to move and was able to see the Canes player with the ball grounded over the line. No other way to actually see the grounding as it happened

@canefan you motivated me to watch the replay again carefully.

On replay it is clear final Canes ‘try’ NOT scored.

Real time two Canes players were on the line blocking ball, and ‘Ref’ was behind maul.

By the time he uncovered bodies and saw ball on line one or two seconds had elapsed.

The grounding was at least a foot short, and he clearly did not see it. TJP knew it had been short, and was already in ref's ear.

The protocols ought NOT to allow ref to deduce a try was scored in such situations. It should have been TMO call.

And since no grounding on replay no try, and back for Canes penalty 10 yards out. [EDIT]

That said, Canes may well have scored from lineout, so can't say much injustice all said and done.

Really? If I was to describe it I'd say he looks like he has no idea where his lollies are (like his dad did).

Replay on at the moment and just saw the Laumape try again. The timing of his "goose step" with Barrett chasing him and basically out of his vision was superb. Also brings to mind something I've often thought - Laumape could well be decent cover for wing off the bench.
